Saturday was the big day we've been building towards for a while and all the work came together in a whirlwind of activity. The day was as perfect as they come around these parts - sunny and windless. We had 13 old and new friends come along to help as well as Brad and Mark the pump rendering experts and of course, Natasha and myself. There was still a lot to be finished before render could go on the walls all around. Brad and Mark rolled in with their equipment after 8am and began to set up as we started some prep work. 
Some of our early starters were Aygun and Angela, then Alan and Lucy from Halls Gap, and Hans and Cath. We had netting still to go around window and door openings and a bit of trimming here and there. We also had some other bits of internal wall to do so that the whole expanse could be rendered over. So while Brad and Mark tried out some combinations of render from the material we had delivered from Scott's, we all got to work. My friend Karen arrived, then Matt, Shane, then Ben and Jasmine (actual chronological order may be wrong, it all was a bit of a blur at times) - we had a serious workforce on our hands! The big challenge then was to keep everyone busy. Once the render started going on the walls, that occupied at least three smoothers, pushing the render into the wall and smoothing it out. Matt, Alan, Aygun, Ben and Jasmine went on to window openings and finishing internal walls. Shane went on to more whipper snippery! Somewhere during all of this, Hans and Cath put up our scaffolding! Progress by lunchtime was good and then Tumer and Sue arrived. Just in time for food. At the time I thought this was pretty funny but when they ended up being the last of our friends to leave it stopped being funny and became bloody awesome! Our teams did an amazing job keeping ahead of Brad and Mark with the pump and then following around after him. Principal smoothers: Karen, Cath, Lucy and Jasmine. Brilliant. Tumer jumped on to mixing and wheelbarrowing duties in the afternoon and didn't stop until tea time, and then went on until we finished. As it got late and people started to go after a long day, some people just carried on! Angela was our longest stayer, she spent a lot of the day putting plastic over our electrical fittings amongst other things. As the first stars came out we kept on going. A beautiful sunset that went on forever was a nice backdrop for the changing texture of our mostly rendered house. It became completely dark and we carried on. Special mentions for Mark, Brad and Tumer, who just kept on going! We continued until we had done all that was ready to be done. Final leaving time? 10pm. A very long day for the pump render guys and for us, as we were up at 6am preparing and on site at 7.30. What a huge day! We were planning to do it over two days but now we have the majority done and that's a great feeling. Thanks so much to EVERYONE who came out for this amazing day. You have all contributed so much and I hope you all got something in return.
