After a blast of a weekend, we are still recovering! I hope our renderers Brad and Mark have recovered sufficiently as well. It really was an amazing weekend getting the first coat of render on - every time I see the house now with it's new look, I think about all the work that lead up to it, and all the people who have contributed over the last month or so to get everything ready for render. The radio bit that Peter did with 774 has also brought additional interest and we met some fabulous people, Hans and Cath on Saturday and Trevor and Carol on Sunday. We also had our fabulous Kiwi friend Logan come over on Sunday, and the three blokes got into some hand rendering - lots of fun. sisters_are_doin_it_for_themselves.jpg

At the same time as appreciating all of this, and taking time to recuperate, we need to keep our focus and keep creating and planning the next 6 or so weeks, getting ready for the second coat of render, third (and final) coat, and the finishing touches to get ourselves moved in with a certificate of occupancy.

I remember quite a while ago, watching Grand Design on TV, and thinking to myself "Gosh, how could they go so far over budget and over time?" How naive was I! I can completely understand the complexity and variations that just 'happen' when owner-building, and despite our best planning efforts, we are months behind where we thought we would be, not to mention, over budget. Now we know it's all part of the journey, and we are trusting that everything will turn out just fine!

We have had lots of fun over the last two days. My sister Katrina has been with us yesterday and today, and our fabulous friend Samantha came over today as well. I took a few days off work to join them, and it has been divine having their company and contribution. Lots of cold wind to keep us busy and we are re-appreciating those rare still warm days.... hopefully more of them to come in the next few weeks.
