It came down to the wire this week, or should I say down to the wiring. We had our good friend Greg the electrician from Konrads in for the first fit of our electrical installation, happening from Wednesday to Friday. It has prompted many questions and necessitated many decisions. Where will all of the power points be, how many phone points, data cables or wireless, where to position the lights? What sort of lights, controlled from where in the room? Which walls will not be rendered, where will the oven, fridge, dishwasher go? It's all stuff that I've never taken much interest in before, things have always just been there and I've never questioned it unless it doesn't work.Elec_boxes.jpg

So there have been many calls from me on site, to Natasha at work to discuss these things. A lot of choices have had to be made without ado. We now have all of the wiring in and boxes in the walls ready to receive the switches once we have rendered our walls. So it's full steam ahead with the internal walls now that everything that needs to be in there is installed. We're building up towards rendering.

Because of unavailability of our spray render guy we may have to do our first coat by hand, which will be more time consuming but equally effective, and cheaper. I have some learning to do about render. I hear it's fun. We'll certainly be needing helpers for this part of the process and a few people have already expressed interest in this. Where we would be without the help we've received from friends, family and strangers, I don't know.

I have two other notes before I sign off on this blog. First, we had a couple of millimetres of rain early on in the week and it has contributed about 2000 litres of water to our tank. Fantankstic! This gives me hope for living in a low rainfall area. Secondly, we had wind gusts beyond 100kph again today, the house stands without a creak or squeak but the portaloo has gone horizontal again. The wind is exhausting to deal with but it's nice to have some kind of solid shelter in the house. I think we've done well.
