Op shops are gold mines. We have some particularly good ones in Bacchus Marsh. Today I went to my favourite one, and found some new steel capped snazzy work boots for $10. I also got 2 pairs of new work shorts for $5 each. I see so much waste in my line of work - we do waste audits of office buildings - and I saw 2 shopping bags of perfectly good onions thrown out last night. Amazing.
I am so excited about using second hand goods and materials in our
build. I was looking at the curtains and some of the furniture at this
op shop - they have everything we are going to need!
A good deal of our internal fittings (kitchen, bathroom etc) will be
second hand. I found a double sink/double drain for the kitchen for $25
and a bathroom vanity for $26 off ebay. I love it. Groups like
Freecycyle give stuff away - constantly...you would be amazed at what
you can get for very little, and it's this kind of thing that is
reducing the waste filling up our landfills, and re-using our precious
resources.
Can't wait to get stuck into building this weekend wearing my new boots and shorts!
