Waking being PDF Print E-mail

The last few days have transformed the look of our build in a very exciting way.  There have been times when it seemed like nothing was happening, at least nothing was visually different.  The stumps were a good example of this.  But when posts started to go up, we could see our house from down the road, it is like a waking being. So right now it seems like this creature has been given a pot of strong coffee. First_ring_beam_up.jpg

So on Tuesday we had Ari (and her dogs Darcy and Jasper, very helpful of course) and Ivan helping on the build and then they all stayed the night and came out for a full day of building on Wednesday.  We got so much achieved and it was a real pleasure to build with two very competent and easy going people. We ran out of timber late on Wednesday and had to call it a day and Ari headed back to the city. Ivan and I went in to city that night to see Tim Finn play a very small but fantastic gig at the Northcote Social Club so it was late when we go back home. But that didn't stop us getting up early this morning to get back into it as Ivan was leaving at lunch time. There was no more timber for posts which meant we had to put up a ring beam.

We tackled the highest and most Tom-and-Captain-Najorkish ring beam there was.  After a lot of considering the safest way to do it we set about cutting the check-outs from the posts, very difficult up a ladder, and then fit the beam on. Some of the posts were not as level as they were when we first put them up so we had to adjust a few but when that was done everything fitted beautifully. Then Ivan left and I finished off by bolting the beam on to get it properly secure. It looks great, very solid and really illustrative of the roof line.

Tomorrow I'm prepping the two big lounge posts (Arthur & Martha or Bert & Ernie or Batman & Robin) so we can put them up on Saturday.  I won't be there for long though, it's forecast to be very hot and very windy. Tomorrow is another high bushfire risk day so it won't be nice weather to work in.  At some stage I need to get more timber too. And work out the shape of the internal framing. There is always something else to do. When does this waking being stop?

Super progress with the beams, looking great.

Had another idea for your post names. How about Neter and Parsh?
