It has been a sunny day today and despite lots of sunblock I'm getting my sun tan in stripes. Forearms and lower legs. The rest of me is as pasty as ever. It was a long day today and it was good to get home and freshen up - sweat, sunblock and sawdust is an itchy combination. By the end of the day I had the final nogging in place and have started to trim the ends of the joists to be uniform for when the flooring goes on.
Next I have to plane the tops of the joists down to a consistent level in any spots where they stick up at all. The flooring has to go on flat so this is essential. I have no idea how long it will take. Hopelly not long at all because tomorrow I also want to get the joists in the bathroom area cut / planed down 25mm to allow for a drainage slope in the wet areas. Standing water and straw bales do not make a happy pair! So tomorrow will be a planefest. The question is: will the planer still be top of the pops of our tool collection after tomorrow? Or will I be OVER IT!
I've been on the phone a lot today, discussing the options with suppliers of flooring and insulation. It's a balancing act trying to be inexpensive and keep our environmental impact down. It's also important to balance my hours on this build so Friday is a day off. We're off to the cricket to see if Australia can rediscover what it feels like to win a game. Can they do it? I hope not, because they're playing New Zealand. Go the Kiwis! NB. Views expressed in this blog are not necessarily the views held by our suppliers, helpers or my wife.
