Hot and dry and windy again. I spent the day finishing off the little items of flooring which needed to be done, and I'm very glad to say it's all on now. Just as I was finishing them up I looked up at the horizon and saw a big tower of smoke coming from the north west. Immediately I turned on the radio which is by far the best way to get information on bushfires and it turned out there was a fire burning out of control just south of Daylesford. That's about 40 kms away from us so no immediate threat but who knows what to expect from these fires?
Since then a wind change has come through which pushes it away from us but doesn't necessarily help the fire fight. Those people are amazing, out there risking their lives day after day in this awful summer. I'd take my hat off to them if the wind hadn't already blown it away.
It was nice to see the new / old posts in the daylight on the house, not fitted yet as I'm there by myself but with a little bit of imagination I can picture them. To that end I've been marking the positions of the posts and making sure they sit on top of a joist which sits on top of a bearer which is on a stump. Otherwise, house not so strong! Not everything was where I hoped but it's all fairly flexible, too bad if the window positioning is a little different to where it was supposed to be. As long as we stick to the spans specified in the plans all is OK. The house is dictating to me where things will go! Cheeky little house.
Tomorrow I will get some help arriving in the shape of our friend Ivan who will be greatly important in getting more posts up, including the two biggies. I feel compelled to name them. Martha and Bob? Bert and Ernie? Cartman and Timmy? Suggestions welcome.
