An early start to work today to get ahead of the forecast heatwave, and that will be the story of the week as the heat remains.  It was a good day and there now only 2 joists to cut and fit.  These ones are around the position of our compostable toilet and I'm just not confident that I have all of the dimensions right yet.  I imagine Treebeard in my ear saying "don't be hasty".  Tempting to just whack them on though! Before we move on to flooring we need to do a few things - put in noggins between the joists to stabilize them and then get the electrician to have a look at things to see if he needs to get in there before the flooring goes on.  We still haven't finalised which insulation we will use under the floor, that's something I'm deciding on now.

It has been odd not having Tarsh around for the day after all our hours on the weekend together.  She is the master of systems.  I am great at using systems when I know how they work but Tarsh knows how to be clever about processes that astounds me.  It sped things up and clarified our approach to our work.  Fantastic!

1. Cool Straw Bale houses
We got an email from friends (Peter and Rosie Margrie) in Woodend yesterday, and their Straw Bale house is a cool 22 degrees inside - in this heat. I keep telling myself that this is the LAST hot summer (and freezing winter) we will have to endure in crappy houses... bring on our fabulously insulated Straw Bale House at Merrimu!

2. who is treebeard?
16 degrees sounds wonderful right now Sue, grass is always greener i suppose...however 3 consecutive days of 43 degrees is beyond the pale.

Just think Peter and Tarsh, next summer (or maybe the one after?) you'll be oblivious to this sort of heat.

What a great photo. I hate to think of you rushing the last bit, particularly if your compostable toilet is involved. Best you get that bit right - cogitate and do a Dad - think much before acting. It looked hot at the Aussie Open today, so I was thinking of you. Wellington had a cold Southerly change and the temperature dropped to about 16. Freezing!
