Yesterday's weather was certainly extreme enough to damage our house but it seems like nothing compared to what people around the state of Victoria are going though. It's hard to comprehend the loss and death that has occurred and we've been so moved by how the people of Victoria support each other in the face of such horror and so much unknown. The bushfires came nowhere near us but we did get smoke, lightning and then a cool change that dropped the temperature 30 degrees in 15 hours! It's unlike anything I've ever seen before and I don't mind never seeing it again. 
There was enough going on without any more happening, however we had a car chase involving the police going racing down our driveway in hot pursuit, meanwhile Tim had driven into a ditch last night in the dark and we had no towrope that would do the job of pulling him out. Also, our lovely tomato plants had been dried up to a lifeless crisp and our lovely healthy bean plants are now has-beans.
So when we arrived this morning, several sheets of our newly delivered flooring had been lifted off their pile by the wind and one or two of them smashed into our decking bearer knocking it off the stump and loosening one of the stumps. Several sheets were broken into pieces. These are heavy sheets so for the wind to pick them up it had to be really gusty, so we're glad we weren't on the site at the time or there may have been more injury. So with Katrina and Claire helping (Katrina seems to have caught the straw bale bug, what a great help), Natasha and I set to putting on our flooring. They have been taking care of the insulation installation situation and helping move the sheets into place while I've been glueing the joists, cutting the sheets to size where necessary, clamping the sheets into place with floor dogs and then nailing them. Looking under the floor it's strange to see darkness all of a sudden. It's been the most fun I've had so far, because I know what I'm doing and the results have such an impact on the build. Being able to walk on a flat surface is fantastic. The more we do the easier it gets. Tomorrow I'm by myself again and I'll really miss the help.
