When I first saw the truck arrive with our straw bales on Thursday, I felt a flood of emotion - I wanted to burst into tears of joy!

There is something very special about working with straw to build our home. It smells wonderful, feels great, is very pliable, and very forgiving - AND it's a waste product, I love it! It also reminds me of my youth, of horse riding in Port Fairy - some of the best memories I have.

This morning as Peter and I awoke, I felt overwhelmed by the generosity and love of our friends and family. What I really love about straw bale building, is the way it naturally creates a community, and allows for anyone, with any level of skill, to build. I just love watching our friends and family come over, learn about the principles, and then very quickly become 'experts' and train others in their new skill. It's hard to explain the joy I felt as were enjoying my mum's fabulous food over lunch. It was just beautiful. Great company, great food, great weather (thank you Lynda for all your praying!) lots of love and straw bale walls to boot!

The most satisfying part of the whole weekend for me was watching the crews work and learn together, observing the magical team work between everyone, and seeing the look of satisfaction on their faces as they looked at the walls that had been built at the end of the day.

I said to my cousin Kane, (who is now a gun wall-builder) "Just think, when you come over for dinner, you can walk in the back door and say - I built that wall". Beautiful.

So although we were quite stressed and working frantically to get the preparation complete for building walls, (thank you so much Cam and Leora!) it is all working out, and the weekend was a brialliant success.

So now we have some more wall building to do (gosh it's fun!), strapping and compressing of walls, intermediate and top boxing to build and door/window bucks to finish, but not before a day of rest and recuperation.

This blog would not be complete with giving our heartleft thank you to everyone:
Brenton, Cam, Leora, Matt, Sienna, Teresa, Mike, John, Ari, Dean, Katrina, Claire, Angela, Sandy, Kane, Aygun, Jo, Rick, Nicole - and not forgetting my mum Brenda and our adopted auntie Lynda. They drove from Port Fairy to feed and take care of us over the weekend. They cooked, catered, cleaned, did our washing, made our beds, did our food shopping and were absolute legends.

Thank you, we absolutely could not do this without you all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
