It's been a great feeling to get the roof totally on last week, although it wasn't without mishap. I feel like a stuck record, but it's been really windy. The locals I've spoken to about the wind say they've never experienced such a windy season. When I was in New Zealand enjoying the calm of Wellington the yet another damaging storm came through and ripped a couple of sheets off the roof. We had to get more roofing delivered which caused yet another delay but eventually they turned up on a rare day of calmness and we finished the roof off. We still need to get the gutters on as soon as possible, so that we can start filling up our water tank which should be arriving soon. So with the house completely covered we've been able to turn our attention to other things. Such as finishing the bale walls at least up to intermediate boxing height.
The parade of storms has knocked over a wall or two before we could get them strapped down, it has felt like two steps forward and one backwards lately. It's a different feeling having a roof overhead though, it increases the options of things to work on considerably. Today I have been putting up window frames in the clerestory window gap so that we can further weatherproof the build and provide extra lateral stability. It also means we can see exactly where the sun will come through at different times of the day. They'll be pretty tiny windows but they do make a difference to the light in the rooms and will be a crucial part of our air flow system.
Finally, I've been hitting my head on a lot of things lately so if my blogs start to resort to poetry or anything like that then just keep an eye on me. I may be losing my nogging.

1. windy
The unseasonable and extreme wind reminds me of when we moved to Kinglake - it snowed 3 times in the first 6 weeks...coldest spring in 25 years. We were utterly ill-prepared for the cold and felt so hard done by!
