Since my last blog I've been rectifying the items specified by our building inspector. It was more time consuming than expected, no real surprise there I guess. I've been over the whole roof adding connector nails to purlin grips and re-doing rafter tie downs on the south end of the house. Next I need to add some internal wall bracing and we should be fine. With that almost complete we can move on to the last preparations for our straw baling weekend next Saturday and Sunday. The first thing to ensure is that our exterior post and wall bracing is out of the way of where our bottom boxing will go.
Then we'll construct the frames for our windows and exterior doors and move on to bottom boxing after that. Also there are a lot of materials to get in before we can start to bale so I'm working though my list with a lot of help from Natasha.
I've been into the council to submit our amendment to allow us to change the roofing material specified in our original permit and until that comes through there's no movement on the roofing front. There are two areas impacted by this situation: one is that we can't put up the walls if it's pelting with rain, plus we will need to cover all of our walls and extra bales with plastic. A small price to pay for building with integrity and transparency.
