Our wishes for a still day must have been heard by someone importatant, because today we had a perfect day for roofing! Tim and Darren (our roofers) arrived early this morning, as did Peter, to a cool but clear sun shiny day, with hardly any wind. And thankfully, it stayed that way!
They got heaps done today, and our house has transformed! No more looking through the rafters to the sky. The whole north side of the roof is almost done. I arrived after lunch to build some of the remaining external straw bale walls, and was very excited to see their progress! We are thanking our lucky stars that Tim and Darren were available to work this weekend, as it has been far too windy the last few weeks to put the roofing on, and it is fantastic to be able to take advantage of the ideal conditions. It was so mild today that we even got down to t-shirts, and we wore sun hats instead of 2 beanies! Outrageous really. So Peter and I are feeling very excited and happy about how things are going, especially since Peter is off for a well earned break to NZ to see his family and friends (and for his Dad's 70th birthday) for 5 days and we were really keen to get a roof on before he went. This week we've also had a visit from our friend and electrician Greg, to talk about our lighting and power point stuff. It's all coming together (I am however, touching wood as I type that bit). So tomorrow we will hopefully have low winds again, so the guys can get on with another productive day of roofing, and I will be able to finish off some more walls. This has definitely been a great day.
