We knew we would get a fair bit of interest about this house of ours, but it never occured to us that complete strangers from other states would find our website and get in touch with us....and offer to help us build! A few weeks ago, Phil did just that, and on his holidays, he has driven down to Victoria from Sydney and hung out with us today on the build. I might add, he is also a qualified carpenter looking to build his own straw bale house..... and we are very appreciative of his generosity.
This build continues to surpise us, in all kinds of ways. Today we continued to build more stud walls, we've gotten through quite a bit this weekend, and although it rained intermittently (and man was that wind icy) we made great progress (thanks Phil!). We keep layering up and layering down, every 5 minutes sometimes, but it's far better than being boiling hot, so we 'no complain'. It's something to get used to, only building on weekends, but thankfully next weekend is Easter and we will be able to spend 3 days building. The next steps are putting the veranda posts in and finishing off the beams, then we can start the rafters and see the roof emerging, now that will be very exciting! Meanwhile, we will continue to be amazed at the fantastic people we are meeting, and the generosity of so many!
