We were starting to wonder where the rest of Autumn had gotten to... was it hiding somewhere? Just when we thought the Convent was going to freeze over, we've seen the sun and glorious blue sky come out to play again - and it has been divine!
Yesterday we had a great time building some of the last remaining stud
walls, and putting up 4 additional walls, in perfect building weather. Despite our relatively late
start, we felt very satisfied at the end of the day and very excited about the way the house
is shaping up. So now the whole of the east end of the house is
complete with internal walls (master bedroom, ensuite, WIR, studio,
toilet and store room) and our kitchen and office is starting to take
form. This coming week is the last week Peter is working at his 'paid'
work, so come 11th May he can get stuck into the build during the week and we and can get some serious progress
happening. This 'only building at weekends' buso is driving us a bit nuts.
Peter and I were just reflecting last night on how thankful we are that we have been able to maintain a social life whilst building. I can see how owner-building could be an 'all-consuming' experience, but we were strongly advised before we started, to keep a balance and to take time off from the build. This is advice we took pretty seriously, and seeing a movie, going out for dinner and catching up with family and friends has been critical. Thank you all for keeping us sane!
Come next weekend, we are getting stuck into building - I am taking some extra days off work next week to build with Peter, and we are taking Mother's Day off building to relax and recuperate. Brilliant combination.
