Well today my fears have been allayed. People have told us (from experience) that once you move in to a self-built house, the motivation to get things complete is rare and almost non-existent. Given we still have quite a bit of work to do to get the house 'complete', my concern that we would find it hard to keep building had been sneaking out - from the back of my mind - to the front. Would we become slackers?
We had been planning to get stuck into some 3rd cooat rendering in our second bedroom today, and we were quite excited about getting a bedroom finished so we could have lots of guests! So true to our word, we did. It was great fun too! Rendering is so enjoyable and has the added bonus of quick satisfaction at the results. As I write this, Peter is finishing off the final sponging of the walls. We have finished the two larger walls of the room, and prepared some of the little spots that only had 1 or no coats iof render, up to 2 coats. Soon the room will be finished. Yay, another tick off our list! We've also been enjoying lots of visitors to the house, including Paul and Jenny who are in the midst of building their own straw bale house not that far from us down Ballarat way. It was fantastic to hear of their journey and swap notes about the experiences we have had, and of course, to share our knowledge and experience. Today we had my friend Vanessa visit, all the way from Perth. She has been following our blogs and journey from the beginning, and it was great to show her and her crew around our home. I can't remember the last time I was so happy. We really are such lucky duckies. We watch the sun come up in the morning, pinching ourselves that we live here in this house, and we watch the sky roll by, then set in the evening, checking out where the kangaroos are this time. The TV is permanently off. We have to pinch ourselves - is this really ours?
