My last blog was very brief and I fully intended finishing it but was interrupted by Natasha going into labour. Quite appropriately I titled the blog Me Chief Running Water and soon after Natasha's waters broke. She Chief Running Water! So building has taken a back seat, in fact everything else took a back seat as we went through a long birth process which culminated in the birth of Dylan Stanley Mills at 3.05am on Monday the 11th of January, weighing in at 3.995kg. We are all quite tired still but Dylan is a strong lad who I may have to buy a toy hammer for. I need all the help I can get. Actually, he is yet to see the house but pretty soon he'll see very little else!

So building a house is all very fine but it's in a totally different realm to seeing my son born. However, I do need to keep on building so that we all have a comfortable place to live and grow in. I've been pottering away during the week on a couple of days but my mind has been back with Natasha and Dylan. And I'm exhausted from the new rhythms that come with having a newborn. But this weekend I had the pleasure of the help of Matt Noyes, old friend and bloody handy guy. We went to work on the ceiling, as once that's done we can give the green light to Greg to finish off the electrical work.

Matt has hung a door or two before as well, so we went about sorting out some of the early ones I stuffed up a little, finishing off some that I had begun but not finished and getting the front door on. I already had the back door mostly complete so to get the front door done was very exciting. Of course the wind was howling from the south and the front door faces south. We had some fun getting it hung but by the end of the day we had it on, weather tight and lockable. So while we have not yet completely sealed the house up against the weather, it is now at what I am calling LOCK-UP!! A huge milestone. It's an amazing feeling having the keys to the new house in my pocket.

Add to this the fact that I cooked a meal there and did the dishes with hot water from our solar hot water system afterwards, and things are looking a lot more liveable. But there is still a lot to do. If anyone is available and keen over this long weekend (23-26 Jan - Australia Day) then we'd welcome your help and company.

1. Boys aplenty
It was great to see you three yesterday afternoon via Skype. With my three boys and your bonnie lad, we're well on the way to creating a decent sports team.

You're all looking great!
