There has been a break between blogs, somehow between the house build and the call of Dylan, time seems so short. Anything resembling spare time gets taken up with sleep catch-up. So now I need to try and remember what has happened since the last post. Let's see, something about lock-up. So since then we've had a 2 day visit from Phil who brought his carpentry skills to bear on the spot between the clerestory windows and the beam, thus sealing up that appealing section of ceiling. With feeling!
I couldn't wait any longer to get the last piece of the kitchen puzzle in, the splash lip and shelf that goes on the edge of the bench. With the lovely recycled messmate timber we bought from Ray I have designed a nice way of finishing off the bench and I had a nice time building it. Once sealed with silicone and stained with a light tint it will be fully operational and will look really good.
But my main focus lately has been rendering the area where the deck will go, as getting the deck done is a requirement of the C of O. Tathra did some of this a couple of weekends ago (while her mum and Emma got into staining decking) and I have gone cob crazy, filling in some of the strange shapes that had appeared. Don't worry, fans of strange shapes, there are plenty left. I also had a visit from Angela who stained a whole lot of deck as well.
Yesterday Cam and Leora came out again and while Leora did the deck zone, Cam gave some of the north wall a second coat. Great work all round. Matt, Corinne and Siena came out in the afternoon and Matt joined Leora in her render quest while Corinne went on a clean-up binge in preparation for a BBQ that she wasn't even staying for! And Merav got into more deck staining. There's a lot of it to do in individual pieces!
As the afternoon wore on, more folks started to arrive until it was a regular car park by the house. Friends from all over came to see the house but mostly to meet Dylan. Many wonderful gifts and much good food was brought along. It felt like a premature house warming, with kids running around, good food and fantastic company. By the end of the night and everyone had gone home I was left alone for a couple of minutes to dream again about living in this house. It's more real than ever now.
