So we returned from our travels with a fresh view of the house we've built. Even though we've been living here for months and continue to work on finishing, the list of completion tasks still seems long. We have something particular to aim at now, as we've applied for the house to be thrown open on Sustainable House Day. The day is organised by folks who want to show what is possible beyond the standard houses that are an accepted part of the landscape. We've pushed quite a few boundaries with our build, both for ourselves and the tradespeople we've used and for our local council. Also, come to think of it, for our friends who've come to help us build and even for Brian our building consultant.

We'll get the exterior looking good and we'd like to shift some of our piles of rock and dirt that are scattered around the house like sentries. We'll also get our driveway done finally. Some people do this first but we're not like that. Too logical! Weather proofing on the house continues, many drafts and potential entry points for water have been plugged up, although I am still in the process of fixing the windows. This deconstruction requires reconstruction at some stage so some "finished" outside areas are having to be re-rendered. It all takes a lot longer than we hoped but that should not be a surprise by now.

The foot did come off the accelerator pedal once we moved in and it is necessary to keep motivated. We do not want to be working on this perpetually. There are too many other things to do in life. But I do feel the need to balance ongoing building with family time, working time and relaxing time. I build to live, not live to build!
