However we have managed to knock over a few very satisfying tasks. We continued along our path of rendering the west end of the house, moving round to the north face of the house. This is where the worst of the weather hits and I feel a lot happier getting more of it done. In a day we managed about 7m x 4m of final coat rendering by hand and the result is great. Because it is the outside of the house it will be seen from many different angles and distances so I'm always enjoying seeing it from different spots.

A couple of days after finishing this rendering we had a visit from Brian Hodge (our building consultant), who hasn't stepped foot on our land since he came out to design the house (Jan 08). He doesn't get much chance to see the houses he has had such a large part in creating so we were really glad that he got a chance to see the house. It was enough to make me a bit nervous I must admit but we had a great time catching up with Brian. One of the things Brian took note of was the flashing at the bottom of the windows, which I knew needed some kind of remedy but I knew not what.

Brian suggested a solution that is slightly destructive but that will ultimately lengthen the lifespan of the windows and prevent any damage to the floor, joists and bearers. It involves packing the windows up off the floor, which I had failed to do first time around. It also requires some shaping around the windows on the outside. And it's good that we find this out before we go bananas on outside rendering.

Brian did mention that a lot of the people he is consulting with have spoken about "helping out on Peter and Natasha's house", so he must have the impression that we are a continuous practical workshop for straw bale building. I guess we are!
