I can hardly beleive it! We could write 10 blogs alone on the trials and tribulations of trying to get our solar hot water system working properly. Today is a cause for some serious celebration - the mystery is solved, and in the end it was much simpler than any of us thought.
You would think that a new system would work properly from the start, yes? Well it's nearly 2 years since we've had ours and it has never worked properly. We have hot water, there is no issue there, it's just getting it to flow into our taps in the house!

Back around the time of the bushfires that wrought havoc and misery on the state and winds that blew me off the joists and damaged my knee, we were laying down the yellow tongue flooring. That has been the floor we've lived with since March 2010 when we moved in and it's looking very average now. Let's just say it soaks up spills like a sponge and with a baby - now toddler - in the house, that means all kind of stuff that I won't go into here.

Well it's been topsy turvy weather of late, that is for sure. It got to 34 degrees this afternoon, and at 8.30pm it's still very warm. A few days ago it didn't get above 12 degrees all day - and overall it's been blowing an absolute gale. I am sure that being nearly 6 months pregnant is adding to my very warm feelings in this heat.

As I write this we have plumbers up on the roof connecting our wetback to our hot water service and - more importantly - attempting to fix our ongoing hot water issue.

Well I shouldn't have jinxed myself by saying that the last blog was the longest in between blogs ever, because now it's even longer! Two months in fact! Before you convince yourself of our utter incompetence (partly true!) let me explain the circumstances!

Yep, you guessed it, this must be the longest gap between blogs ever! Our apologies. It's been very apparent to me, how much more there is to do, and how little we have been doing on the house of late - but things are turning around, phew!

We are really starting to appreciate just how great it is to have that glorious winter sunshine coming through our north-facing windows. It has been very cold, and very windy, and today's sunshine was a welcome relief!

Well things have been moving... particularly our house with the gale force winds we have been having. Although it's nothing new for us, it's always fascinating to actually 'feel' the house move like it does when it gets that windy.

This building caper has had many silver linings - not the least of which has been the wonderful people we had met along the way. Ari was one of the first people we met. Ari now has a fabulous partner Dean, and a gorgeous daughter
Issy (born a few days after our Dylan). They have a straw bale house in Malmsbury (just past Kyneton on
the way to Bendigo from Melbourne) that they are owner building.

One of the great things about the community
we’re had rally around us to build our house is seeing friends begin and
progress with their own building projects. We had a visit from Hans and Cath yesterday who are just hitting the accelerator with their strawbale house build. They also have a blog and a very cool website (see link below). They also brought a very delicious walnut, banana, pecan and chocolate cake (thanks Cath, yummmmmm!). So it was really great to catch up and get the latest on their build.
